Flock 239
Sheep built on the past with a constitution to last
Sheep built on the past with a constitution to last
In 1931, the Carter family created Corriedale stud Flock 239, in Crookwell, NSW, to supply rams for a
large commercial Corriedale flock. The breed was growing very fast and by 1962 when Richard Carter came aboard, Corriedales had grown to become the second biggest breed in the world.
HIS AIM: To breed big long bodied sheep with constitution.
A true traditional purebred self replacing Corriedale.
The History page records the R & J Carter story.
Now in 2020, 60 years later, at Billigaboo West in the NSW Riverina, in a new century with new technology and exciting new markets created by climate change, we are setting about the next stage in developing a genuine dual purpose animal based on the genetic stability, built into the breed over its 140 year history, in a global economy where new markets for mutton and lamb and the growth of sheep numbers and processing of wool in a dynamic Asean economy zone is exploding, the opportunities are enormous.
